Bernie, thanks for visiting us here in GTMO! I thought the mixture of comedy with a message was great. Keep up the good work!

July 27th, 2009 at 13:40 | #2

Great show. Probably the best training on these subjects in my 18 year career. thanks again.

Awsome show! Truely touching and motivating. I was really surprised and touched by the story of your brothers and it really made me appreciate my siblings and familiy. It was a great show. Super hilarious and a definate must see. I saw it twice and it was great. Thanks and keep strong.

July 27th, 2009 at 18:20 | #7

Hey Bernie. Thank you for you show. It was a very enjoyable learning experience. And your stories opened the eyes of many people. Thank you also for signing my book. Thank you once again Bernie. The stories were cool. Thank you once again.

July 27th, 2009 at 20:04 | #8

thank you so much for coming out here. it was a great show and a vary moving message.

July 28th, 2009 at 07:20 | #9

I really enjoyed your show. It is important for soldiers to get a different and fresh look at a topic that is very important, but often is relegated to a “check the box” requirement. Thank you for your service to our Country!

July 28th, 2009 at 07:42 | #10

Hey good show, and im not just sayin that.(Pick Me)

July 28th, 2009 at 13:30 | #11

Bernie,

Thank you for coming to train us. Your show was great. I was overwhelmed with laughter and at the same time praise you for your courage and how you have over come such hardship. Thank you again and god bless.

July 28th, 2009 at 14:17 | #12

Bernie,

I wouldn’t think for a minute that a comedy show would actually serve as a training tool for us in the military. Oh my God, was I wrong!!! Bernie delivered an outstanding performance with a clear message that touched majority of our hearts. It was a performance that I would be more than happy to pay for. There was not even one Soldier, Airmen, Sailor or Marine that didn’t came out of the Club saying nothing but great things about the show and the sensitive message delivered across the crowd. Bernie, it was a great honor and pleasure to have you performing for us. God bless you and keep you healthy to keep making us laugh. Thanks again!

Bernie!

That was a great show! I am glad I went. It was entertaining, and of course winning the lottery ticket stuff was good too… but mostly, you carried a great message to the military community here in Cuba. Thank you!

Also, you need to post those pics you took of all us together (one with the Chargers hat, one with the NAVY hat, and the other guy… hahaha ~ I think that other guy was you!)

Again, it was great! It’ll be good if you can come back!

July 29th, 2009 at 12:04 | #14

Hey! Great show. I really appreciated the effort it took for you to get over here to visit and your show really was a breath of fresh air. I look forward to seeing you on programs and shows in the near future.

The unique perspective you have on life and you comedic style make for a great platform to talk about the tough issues that military members face today. Thanks for breaking from the traditional “briefing” style and genuinely involving the audience to get you message across.

I enjoyed the show this morning you are a great speaker. I really liked your life story that you told. It really inspired me. I hope to see more of your act again! Thanks for coming out and speaking with us!!

June 25th, 2009 at 04:40 | #3

Thanks for coming to Bamberg Bernie, I really enjoyed the show. At first I thought it was going to suck because it was forced upon me to show up, but after the first minute in to the show I was glad I showed up. After the show ended, I wanted to come up and say thanks for coming and that I enjoyed the show, but I did not want to come off as some guy that was on your nuts and too cheap to buy your book. Your message was quite clear and to me you where funny as hell. You did kill. Again Thanks.

June 25th, 2009 at 04:52 | #4

Thanks for the show. It was funny and touching, I wish there were more shows like yours for the military, because you are right the slide shows suck. Good luck with your future shows

June 25th, 2009 at 04:54 | #5

I loved your show. I reciently quit drinking, I was simply losing control. My family life was falling apart so I decided for a change I have not drank since the new year and I am looking forward to a life of sobriety. That is the one of the reasons why I enjoyed your show so much. You have inspired me to keep up not drinking. Thank you.

Hey Bernie,
your show sucked. Just kidding. Thanks for the entertainment. People like yourself makes me glad that I joined the military. Your message for the troops will definitely have a impact on they way they think. Once again thanks for your time and I really enjoyed the show.

Your show was very entertaining. I couldn’t stop laughing from your little jokes. It’s nice to see when someone can agree that they messed up somewhere in their life with alcohol and drugs. Most people can not admit it. Thats why I only have my occasional drink. Which is not much at all. So, thanks for the show and have a great life with your sobriety and take care of your brother since family ALWAYS comes first.

GREAT JOB!!!

June 25th, 2009 at 08:27 | #9

like your show hope u come back to bamberg

June 25th, 2009 at 08:35 | #10

I just left from the Happy Hour Comedy Tour and in my opinion, it wasn’t what I expected. I thought it would be someone standing there talking and put me to sleep. But he kept the audience entertained with his comedy and bought out and inspirational message. Don’t let alcohol and drugs take over your life and if you need help, there are too many resources and agencies that can help. I really enjoyed the show…lol

June 25th, 2009 at 09:09 | #11

Great show!!!

June 25th, 2009 at 09:10 | #12

Thanks for the show, I really enjoyed it. People like you make my job even better.

June 25th, 2009 at 09:24 | #13

Bernie, thanks for coming out and bringing us all the laughter!it was really good and we needed it! i hope you can come out again sometime soon

June 25th, 2009 at 09:39 | #14

Bernie,
Your show was amazing. I was able to relate so much to your message. I also heavily abused alcohol at a young age. Two DUI’s later and couple trips to court made me realize that I needed help. I joined a church sponsored AA support group and went completely dry at 21. I have been alcohol free for 12 years and still going strong. Thanx so much for your message. Keep it going.

Bernie.. Bernie.. BERNIE!
That was a great performance with a twist of a lesson. Every soldier, airman, sailor and marine needs a good laugh to relieve them off some stress. I just can’t keep myself from laughing. Lessons can be learned from your performance. Now keep on performing and give me a copy of your book with your signature in it! HAHAHAHA! Now that’s a joke. Thanks again and good luck.

June 25th, 2009 at 10:41 | #16

Thanks for the show. Good going with Leno! That’s a big achievment.

June 25th, 2009 at 11:50 | #17

Bernie thanks for the laughs. With all the problems soldiers have with redeployment’s Alcohol related have been at the top. Hopefully soldiers where paying attention.

June 25th, 2009 at 12:00 | #18

Bernie,
Today was the second time I’ve seen your show and you had me laughing out loud again. I especially like your story about your brother Sean. Keep supporting the troops!!! Any friend of a Soldier is a friend of mine. Love ya man!

June 25th, 2009 at 12:27 | #19

Hello Bernie,

Thank you for coming to Bamberg and teaching us your story. I was very entertained listening and can relate to many of the situations. Please continue to inspire and help our troops. Enjoy your time in Germany and beyond.

June 25th, 2009 at 12:43 | #20

Your presentation was great!!!! I was like OMG….not another class @ the Mohawk Theater. And I had just eaten a big lunch @ the Dining Facility. But today’s training was “off-the-hook”; it really didn’t matter that it was 2:00pm. I like that you can make light of a serious subject like alcohol and drugs. Thanks for thinking and supporting the TROOPS. ***BTW, I agree that BAMBERG is the cleaniest installation in Germany**** Photo of you and Sean is HOT!!!

June 25th, 2009 at 13:22 | #21

Bernie – Thank you for sharing your comedy and your story. I laughed and had tears in my eyes at your stories and one-liners. It helped drive home the message you brought to us at the Cape. Hope Sean enjoys the tour information and that you have a great trip. We appreciate you visiting the troops, giving laughs and spending your time sharing. Thanks a bunch.

YOUR SHOW WAS OUTSTANDING AND MOVING YOUR BROTHER SHAWN REMINDS ME OF MY BROTHER JOE. YOU MADE ME LAUGH SO HARD I CRIED.

June 19th, 2009 at 10:35 | #5

LOVED your comedy “act” during this morning’s commander’s call. You presented some of your life lessons in an hilarious manner that I hope hit home to many of our airman who are struggling with bad choices. I wish this type of call would be the norm. Thank you for sharing.

I WORK AT THE PATRICK AIR FORCE BASE CLINIC,AND WE DID NOT GET A CHANCE TO GO TO THE THEATHER TO SEE YOU.WE DID HOWEVER SEE YOU ON CHANNEL 99 ( THIS IS THE CHANNEL FOR MEMBER WHO CANNOT MAKE IT TO THE THEATHER )WE WERE LAUGHING SO HARD,WE DID NOT WANT YOU TO LEAVE.THANKS SO MUCH FOR BRING YOUR COMEDY SHOW HERE TO PATRICK.

Great show. Do you do this for high schools? They need to hear your message.

June 19th, 2009 at 10:45 | #9

I think I speak for everyone when I say you were hilarious and really sent out a good message at the same time. It is greatly appreciated what you are doing and I think Patrick would have you back anytime, have fun in Florida!!!!!!!!

June 19th, 2009 at 10:59 | #10

I appreciated your show. Thanks for comtributing to the greater good is the ways you best know how. great message. You seem like you were having a good time yourself. Some of your lanquage was a little stronger than I cared for. My concern is that those who are really opposed to any profanity might not hear anything you say but those words. Putting things in perspective language-wise, you were like the Pope compared to most younger comics (early 20′s) these days. What I liked about you is that you were not sarcastic or cynical in the least, and I think that’s rare in standup talent.

June 19th, 2009 at 11:01 | #11

Hi Bernie! What a great show that you provided to Patrick! Everyone in my organization enjoyed! Keep up the great work!

June 19th, 2009 at 11:02 | #12

Thanks for the safety brief, it was a refreshing change from the usual powerpoint.

June 19th, 2009 at 11:07 | #13

Bernie,

Thanks for coming to Patrick and sharing your story. You put on a great show! Thanks for all the support!!

June 19th, 2009 at 11:09 | #14

Bernie, Absolutely outstanding, and inspirational message, comedy, tragedies, and redemption all rolled into one, with your personal anecdotes, insights, and bravery. Bravery in as much that your willingness to share intimate, and painful stories served to hit home the message of your Happy Hour Comedy. We have all at one time or another been where you have been, but you have had the courage to confront these situations, paid for them at various times, but out of all of this, you succeed in driving home a relevant lesson to all of us, thank you, and God Bless You, for the work you are doing has a very spiritual guidance, to save lives…

June 19th, 2009 at 11:11 | #15

Bernie,

I enjoyed your show today at Patrick! It was a pleasent surprise not to be bored to tears by the standard “death by powerpoint” safety briefing! Your personal story was very moving and I wanted to thank you for sharing it.

June 19th, 2009 at 11:12 | #16

You are a very funny comedian. To take life’s sometime’s tragic incident’s and incorporate them into a career of comedy is something else. The message you send out is important and needs to be told. What a fantastic way of doing it. Your show is great.

June 19th, 2009 at 11:16 | #17

I enjoyed your comedy show today 19 Jun at Patrick AFB. I hope the message gets out to all military personnel and wish i could have had my 18 year old son there as he gets ready to go off to college and not under my eyes. I pray that we have taught him what he needs to know and hope I don’t ever get a phone call or a knock on the door saying my son was hurt.

Again thanks for the show and the message was good.

June 19th, 2009 at 11:37 | #18

Awesome presentation…It really made me think about some of the choices we make….I will definetly think twice.

Thank you

June 19th, 2009 at 11:56 | #19

Great show–great message. Nice change to powerpoint. Thanks.

June 19th, 2009 at 12:03 | #20

Awsome Bernie, you’re doing a great thing, your presentation was spectacular, funny, moving and nailed the message that you’re conveying!

June 19th, 2009 at 12:25 | #21

Our Safety Briefings were never so much fun!! Thanks for the laughs and the inspiration!!

June 19th, 2009 at 12:51 | #22

I really enjoyed the comedic way you talked about some serious subjects -alcohol, drugs, DWI, unsafe sex, etc. It made me think about a lot of decisions that we make in life that sometimes do not have a good result. Thanks for coming to Patrick AFB with your program.

June 19th, 2009 at 12:53 | #23

Bernie!
Great Show today at CCAFS. Thanks so much for what you do. This was definately the FUNNIEST safety briefing I have ever been to. You made “Mandatory Fun” acutually, well, FUN!

June 19th, 2009 at 13:00 | #24

Sir,

Wanted to thank you for your sincerety. It’s not easy to do what you do and all of us respect that. Even those of us who are typically stoic about training and messages expressed their vulnerability to your humor and your message. Keep up the exemplary work.

Lt Dario Plazas

June 19th, 2009 at 13:27 | #25

Thanks so much, Bernie, for delivering a light-hearted presentation on some heavy subjects — stuff we really needed to hear. And, you did it in such an off-handed way that we were thoroughly engaged and eternally curious how you were going to weave comedy into such deep subjects. Talk about sneak attacks! You should join the Special Forces! I have NEVER laughed that much in the base theater in all my 20 years at Patrick AFB!
You were not judgmental (therefore, people didn’t “tune out”), but it’s obvious you genuinely care about people and you are serious/passionate about the effects of alcohol, drugs, sex and the negative impact on lives. You had me laughing AND crying all at once. What an incredible roller coaster ride! I’s sure your mother is proud of you.
Blessings,
Trudy Hughes, Chief, Plans Flight, Space Communications Squadron
P.S. Congratulations on your 21 years of sobriety! Hallelujah!

June 19th, 2009 at 13:50 | #26

Bernie!
Awesome show! The perfect blend of lighthearted comedy and sincere, from the heart, emotion, to convey your message. It took me on a rollercoaster ride of laughter and tears! Thanks for bringing your message. For some of us it hit very close to home and hopefully will put those who need it, back on the course.

June 19th, 2009 at 13:57 | #27

Thank you very much for bringing your message to the troops (old and young). We all hear the same old briefings, see the same old charts, but you definitely put a more personal, in your face touch to the reality of what it means to “being in control and responsible for your actions”. Continue spreading the message far and wide….God Bless!!

June 19th, 2009 at 13:58 | #28

Thanks for entertaining us this morning; your message was humorous and powerful at the same time! Keep up the good work!

June 19th, 2009 at 14:06 | #29

SMSGT KATHY THOMAS :Sir,Bernie,
I certainly enjoyed the presentation this AM at the Cape. You were absolutely worth the early rise. (had to drive an additional hour prior to my 0720 hr arrival.) You were a Entertaining and passionate speaker; its obvious you love life and support our Military men and woman. GOD Bless and travel with GODS SPEED taking a true heartfelt message to our brothers and sisters. We Thank you for the laughs and the hugs XXXXXXOOOOOOOOOO

June 19th, 2009 at 16:34 | #30

Hi Bernie,
I really enjoyed the “twist” in training, what a brilliant idea! So much better then the BORING briefings we hear over and over again! Thanks!

I laughed as well as cried. I have a Brother who was an alchoholic/drug addict who was near dementia and has seizures constantly related to the abuse and was recently killed when we was struck as a pedestrian by a drunk driver. My heart went out to you and remembered my own Bro when you were talking about yours. I wish you and your family Yah’s peace!

Say hello to Shawn and Debra.

Thanks for visiting PAFB!

June 19th, 2009 at 16:36 | #31

Amazing show today! You made that the best Commanders call that I have ever been to. God Bless you and keep doing what you do. You have an awesome gift, and it is so great to see that you are using it to influance others in a positive way.

Bernie- Thank you not only for the laughs, but the message too.

June 19th, 2009 at 17:10 | #33

I laughed and laughed and laughed. A hard story to tell but you hit the mark. A great message and delivered a way people WILL remember. You are an inspiration in how you turned your life around. Thank you for coming to Patrick AF Base. I hope you can come see us again.

June 19th, 2009 at 17:19 | #34

I just want to add that this is a great presentation for high school students.

June 19th, 2009 at 17:31 | #35

great show.

June 19th, 2009 at 18:56 | #36

I’ve been in the AF for 20+ years and after listening to years and years of safety (anti-drug, suicide, etc…) messages, hearing yours today was a VERY pleasant surprise. I thought you did an amazing job and for as much as people think we are heroes, you should pridefully wear that badge as much as any of us. THANK YOU!

June 19th, 2009 at 19:14 | #37

Awesome job! clever way to get a very important message across. Those were a great deal of very important messages combined and delivered in a way they could never be missed nor misinterpreted! Loved every minute of it. The lady next to me was laughing so hard, I had to move half way through the show!

June 19th, 2009 at 19:59 | #38

Bernie
I’ve been a police officer in the Air Force for 28 years and have been part of many “mandatory fun” events; however, yours was, by far, the most entertaining and had a great message, particularly for our young men and women. Thanks for stopping by Patrick and if you’re ever in the area again, give me call and join us cops in the fireams training system (think big video game) or a military working dog demo–(321) 494-6202.

You were absolutely phenomenal today at Patrick AFB – you were an uplift to the entire audience! I feel that you touched everyone that was there – well – when I looked to my left and then to my right I was not the ugly one because the others were not laughing! And I laughed so hard that I was crying. You brought so much of your personnel experience to our world today and I am sure that many related to your monologue. I certainly will remember you Bernie – you touched my life

Bernie,
Thanks for sharing your personal story and providing such an inspirational message. It was the most entertaining and moving safety briefing that I’ve ever received. God bless you and keep up the great work!

In my 25 years of civil service, I wanted to tell you – your message is heard and well received – thank you for what you are doing for the men and women who fight for our freedom –

June 20th, 2009 at 08:45 | #42

Thanks for all you do to reach out to those serving in the military, and especially thanks for visiting us at Patrick/Cape Canaveral. The show was great, and the message was awesome. Your show reaches the audience in a way that most presentations on this topic never would.

Keep on doing what you do!

June 20th, 2009 at 09:31 | #43

That was such a great show and an even better message, Bernie! Thank you for doing what YOU do for US…we get even better because of people like you.

June 20th, 2009 at 09:44 | #44

Bernie …. Thank you for a great performance here at Patrick. Your Comedy Hour was a great show and the message you presented was clear. Thanks for sharing and may God continue to Bless you as you travel around the world.

Bernie, enjoyed the show. A message from someone who has been there/done that means so much more. Keep up the great work. thanks for the laughs

June 16th, 2009 at 12:34 | #3

I totally understand where your coming from. I ruined alot because of drinking in college. I can appriciate your words of wisdom. Iam glad i went to it. Not to mention it was funny. Thanks

June 16th, 2009 at 12:40 | #4

Hi Bernie. I attended your show at Elmendorf AFB. It wasn’t so much mandatory as “high encouraged” that we see it I thought it was great and I hope to see more briefings like that in the future. Thanks again for your visit. Hope you enjoy Alaska!

June 16th, 2009 at 12:55 | #5

Good show, they really set you up for success with an 8 am show! It was still very entertaining and had a great message. More people need to give back like yourself, thanks for coming out and showing love to the troops.

June 16th, 2009 at 13:13 | #6

Bernie, thanks for the awesome show! It takes alot of courage to get up there and share your personal experiences, and I thank you for that. You have sent a strong message! I think you should come back every year for our annual “training”…sure beats “death by power point”. Again, thanks for the awesome show and best of luck to you and your family.

June 16th, 2009 at 13:19 | #7

I was touched by the part with your family…
i have a weir sister, a sister who i cant get to stop drinking/smoking pot..and a mentally handicapped cousin… i also have brother and another sister.
but i liked how you’re not a comedian who makes fun of mentally handicapped kids… i hate that…
but you were funny and really easy to relate to aside from the drinking and drugs…
was hilarious… come bkc

June 16th, 2009 at 13:20 | #8

hey thanks for a great show. i was moved by you sharing your personal experiences with us, and i appreciate you taking time out for us, thanx!

June 16th, 2009 at 14:08 | #9

Thanks for visiting Elmo Bernie! You put on a good show w/a great message. It’s awesome to have folks like you who are willing to travel the world to help entertain and support the military. Thanks again and have a great visit here in Alaksa!

June 16th, 2009 at 14:16 | #10

Hey Bernie I really enjoyed your show this morning. I am sorry to hear about your brother and what happened but I like how incorporated it into you message and I think that it hit home with some , if not, most of the audience. It will not hit home for some until it happens to them but people can relate to a more personel experience than someone just going up and blowing smoke.

Thank you for taking the time for coming up here and spending your time with the group.

Thank you for coming to visit us here in Alaska today. I attended your show on Elmendorf this morning and I must say it was an honor. I really appreciated your words of wisdom and what you shared with us. Thank you for lightening up my day with your hilarious humor! Hope to see you again some time!

June 16th, 2009 at 14:53 | #12

your story really touched me today. very funny but a message brought in a different way can make a difference in lives of many people with the same issues… i am that two beer person so i do not know what that feels like but i really admire that you share that with people who may not know its a problem. thank you again you really shed some light on the signs and now i know what to look for so i can help.

June 16th, 2009 at 16:23 | #13

Bernie, Your show was great. I wish all of our “recommended” gatherings could be as entertaining as yours. I also appreciate the message you put out there. I know issues like that can be a bit hard to get out in a way that young people can really soak in, especially when it comes to things like suicide. I appreciate you sharing your story, I couldn’t imagine having to go through something like that, but at the same time, I’m sure that every airman in the room took what you said to heart. I know I did.

I hope you enjoyed your stay in Alaska and hope you decide to return one day.

June 16th, 2009 at 17:32 | #14

Bernie,

It was great meeting you today. You have an amazing character and a strong will. I’m very happy that there are people like you still out there who understand that our mistakes can make a HUGE difference in our lives and who we become. I really appreciate you taking the time to come out and speak to us. Stay blessed!

Hope you enjoy Alaska its the one good thing I wanted and received from the Air Force (kidding I love the military).

June 16th, 2009 at 23:15 | #21

Bernie,

I really enjoyed your show and want to thank you for coming out and supporting our Airman and Troops. I know they get beat to death by powerpoints and flyers and you really helped bring the message in a different way. Your real life experience brought a message of truth and I thank you for that. I wish you the best on everything you do. Thanks again.

Hey I loved your show! it definately left me thinking twice about what i do when i go out to drink! ive never really been into comedy but im going to get ur book… ive seen tons of shows and been to plenty of briefs about drinking and urs by far was the best. thanks a lot for coming to alaska. i hope u had a great time up here

June 17th, 2009 at 00:37 | #23

Bernie,

Great show. Keep doin what you are doin, I know that the message totally hit home to me. Usually it is the worst situations that open people’s eyes to what’s going on and I am sure that you opened a few eyes today. I hope that you enjoy your time in AK.

June 17th, 2009 at 09:41 | #24

Funny with a good message. Can’t beat that.

June 19th, 2009 at 11:42 | #25

You Rock Bernie!!! Thank you for your refreshing delivery and presentation to what has become to most of us as standard mandatory “blah blah blah”! I too lost my brother (Steve) to suicide and know first hand, alcohol and drugs are “silent but deadly” depressants contibuting to a lifetime of regrets of “can’t take it back” decisions. The guilt you carry is excrusialty and I admire you for taking such a personal subject to get the word out to others. God Speed to you and your family for sharing/spreading the message in such a powerful, personal and positive format – Patrick Loved You! V/R Debb

June 19th, 2009 at 22:54 | #26

Thanks for coming to Patrick! I was at Elmendorf before here and I saw you were just there as well. Hope you enjoyed the vast differences and we certainly enjoyed your show! Thanks for your time and effort. Hope you have a great weekend!

June 15th, 2009 at 19:35 | #2

it was great, the best “safety class” i have ever had!

June 15th, 2009 at 20:39 | #3

This was a unique approach at a safety briefing, it is unique and definitely changed the way that the soldiers view alcohol in a more realistic sense. I believe that more applications of this kind of training would change the overall perception of safety briefings and even more so the amount of information pulled from this training. You had a host of self-experienced knowledge and included them flawlessly into your act. Thanks again for showing up and supporting the soldiers!

June 15th, 2009 at 22:40 | #4

Great show today. A REALLY refreshing approach to a very difficult problem in our Army and society. Not only that, but hilarious–definitely a fresh approach to training. Thank-you Bernie for your service to our Soldiers!

June 15th, 2009 at 23:30 | #5

What a great training opportunity. This was a great way to deliver an important message. I only wish in my 20 years of service somebody would have thought of this sooner. Bernie, I really appreciate the message you are delivering and sharing your personal trials and tribulations with the Soldiers.

June 16th, 2009 at 02:23 | #6

As far as the average “safety” briefings go and the “vollen-told” death-by-power-point presentations, I was greatly impressed. Thank you for your time. Your personal story was touching, as many of my brothers and sisters have had, a similar event happen, even if we are no blood in the true meaning. Thanks for coming to meet the troopers of fort rich and share a few laughs (even at our expense) and your personal stories, both good and bad. We salute you.

June 9th, 2009 at 16:15 | #2

Bernie, I just wanted to thank you for your inspirational comedy skit this morning. Although I do not have an alcohol problem, it still brought to life the importance of having control over yourself and your habits. Thanks again for the great skit and preaching your word to our Airmen!

June 9th, 2009 at 16:56 | #5

Hey Bernie, you have to stop talking about me and my Speedo. OK? Just Kidding. I admire what you do, and your show was great. I hope you influenced a lot of people today in a BIG way, because, DUI’s are a BIG problem for some reason.

June 9th, 2009 at 17:00 | #6

Thanks for the show, it was a laugh I needed, but the show would of been better if I wasn’t in combat training all day (MOB School) I was so tired I couldn’t stay awake but when I did wake up and caught a joke I laugh my self right back to sleep (No Offense). I love the show hope I see u at another base again or on TV.

June 9th, 2009 at 17:20 | #7

Great show. Enjoyed every minute of it. Congrats on 21 years. Take care and enjoy your brother just put the top up next time. Thanks again

June 9th, 2009 at 17:20 | #8

Thank you for the message this afternoon. I think your message touched a few people today. I hope that some of these people that think it won’t happen to me will wake up and realize that it can and will happen.
keep doing what you do. Your show was awesome. Thanks again.

Bernie,
I must say I was sceptical at first about the show since it was made mandatory and all the biuld up of “hey you don’t have a choice, you have to go” hahaha were used to it though . Any ways I loved the show it was great and totaly glad I got to see it/u!! What a great show of how comedy and a good message can be thrown in a bag tied up and thrown off a biulding and when it hits the ground it magically creates a great message for all Airmen and anyone at that, or how about it was just a good show hahaha I’m no poetry writer !! I acualy took care of your lodging but unfortutly did not get to meet you and could not stay after your show. But I took the time to write this message as a thank you and a hand shake! I have had my share of beer moments and your message is exsactly what people need to hear and mixxed with comedy couldn’t be a better idea it keeps peoples attention! At any rate keep up the good work and thank you for taken the time to visit McChord AFB!! Good luck and God Bless!! Ron

You have a great message to share with the whole of America. Alcohol abuse is the white elephant in our living rooms, and the military talks out of both sides of their mouth. “yes it is a serious issue, now lets go have a beer and talk about it…”

Thank you for lifting some people back up… the bottom is usually a scary place.

Bernie, Thank you very much for the comedy relief that you brought to our military. I also wanted to say “Brillant” idea as an alternate to the Don’t Drink and Drive concept. As important is it is and as many briefings that we listen to, your show at McChord was fantastic. Many of my fellow airman were still talking about your show later in the afternoon. Although you brought comic relief that comic relief sticks in peoples minds and lasts a long time. Keep doing what you do. You are a great comedian. I hope McChord gets the opportunity to have you come out again.

I can remember laughter being such a big part of my life growing up. We talked and laughed about everything not having enough to eat, lights being cutoff you name it! Sometimes though it was frustrating because I did not always get the punch line, but one day my granmother explained sometimes you laugh to keep from crying. Bernie Thank you for the laughter as a military in the pass 8 years it seems like we have been pressed on every side. Family issues, deployments, inspections you name it, but there comes a time when we have got to laugh to keep from crying. Your comedy had an awesome message, that we all needed to hear but it also help some of us take a break from shedding some tears. We thank you…we appreciate you and we love you right back! Keep doing what you are doing it does more for us than you will ever know.

Bernie – I caught your act here at McChord today. As a retired Flight Engineer who still works as a Department of Defense Civilian (I have been in Federal Military Service since 1978, either as a Reservist, Active Duty, and now Civil Service) I truly appreciate your willingness and dedication to give my fellow Airmen a laugh, while highlighting the dangers of drugs and alcohol.
I was very sorry to hear about your brother taking his life. My Brother is a recovering alcoholic who wasted most of his 45 years on alcohol. Like you, he started as a grade-schooler, and only got worse from there.
He lost his wife and can only hold meanial jobs, even though he is the hardest worker and is sober. He owes the state thousands in child support. Such a waste. Like your brother, mine has such talent that may never be realized due to the ravages of alcohol and drugs.
Thanks again for all you do.
Craig Kelshaw – Retired Air Force Flight Engineer, and current Air Force Simulator PO/QAR.

Just wanted to say that you were awesome today and it was a VERY nice change to the stupid “death by powerpoint” training that we are all too used to. Thanks for the message and the great stand up show!

Another way to save doedorant – use a q-tip to get the gel out of the cap – especially after it has been on an airplane!
Seriously – awesome show, we’ll never know how many lives you changed and/or saved!

Yo Bernie!!!!, I had the most fun in a “MANDATORY BRIEFING” in a long time. thanks for coming to McChord AFB and sharing some of you experiences and life stories in a comical way. trust me it was a lot better than the usual death by powerpoint. I loved your stories about your brothers because I can relate. keep up the good work.

That was a great show. I am glad that you are able to take a message with such a strong meaning and put it into a comedy show. It allowed for many of our troops to relaxenjoy some comedy as well as our leadership provide a strong message out to our Airmen.

Thanks again.

Bernie-I have to say that your show was AMAZING! I really loved the message you delivered. I admire your strength in being able to stay sober for 21 years!!! With all the mandatory, death by slide show, boring presentations; it was wonderful to be able to sit back and laugh while hearing a powerful message of the negative effects of alcohol/drugs. I can honestly say that through all the briefings I’ve been to this one definitely will stick with me as the BEST! I laughed so hard during the “Comedy Hour” that I had tears streaming down my face, laughter is what I believe to be the most powerful medicine. May God continue to bless your life, and from the depths of my heart I thank you for coming to McChord to share your story. You definitely have impacted so many lives (to include mine). I will definitely be more consious of the decisions I make from now on. We love you too Bernie!!! God bless you and take care.

You were awesome!!! You came highly recommended by other Air Force wings and hit the perfect chord with our Airmen–it was thumbs up all around by the McChord leadership after listening to your show. I know that our Wingman campaign will be very successful with your help launching it–I hope you can come back again!!!

All the best,

And to know that it hurts me because now my brother looks that me different but, my hope is that more people like you can change both of their minds. Thanks for the laughs and insprational message. I’ve been in 18 years and have never seen the message deliverd like that before. You are a blessing to the United States Military and I would dare to say you have saved hundreds if not thousands of lives. Good on you. We just need to provide you with a better audience – not one who had to perform a FOD walk, then run 2 miles, then sit in the hot sun. Not to mention a sound check was needed – the sound was extremely loud. All these things we at LRAFB need to fix. YOU WERE GREAT! I hope I get to see your show again.

Bernie,
Thanks for your show and for your message. Definitely MUCH better than death by Powerpoint.
Without the safety message, your humor would still have been enjoyable.
Likewise, even without your humor, your message would have been well-received. Sharing your personal story reinforced your points of risk management, “wingmen” philosophy, and consequences.
Thanks for sharing your time and your life lessons with us.
Thanks also for being a part of part military “family”!

The most unique Safety presentation I’ve ever seen. I lost a wing commander to suicide 8 months ago, moved to WPAFB and had several more suicides. I myself was suffering depression, but pulled myself out. Found a new boyfriend, making progress with my relationship with my children, made MSgt, and coming up with out of the box ideas like your presentation is just Awesome! Thank You for the laughs, and the lessons. You make a difference. You are so much Appreciated!

Sincerely,

Bernie… you took the duldrum out of the typical 101 critical days of summer mandatory briefings we have to attend year after year! Let’s go Yankees! You’re from the Bronx, so I figured you’re a Yankee fan! I’m the guy from Long Island. I grew up going to Yankee games back in the 70′s and 80′s and I’m hoping to catch a game at the new Stadium when we go to NY in July!

Very funny!!!! I don’t even think I noticed that you transitioned into the “good decisions” speech until after you were well into it. You probably got through to more young airmen in 30 minutes than I have in twenty years! Thank You and keep up the good work!!!!

Bernie,

I joined the military 8 years ago because I wanted to help people. Your message does just that. You have touched thousands with your message, and they will tell thousands more. You are truly an American Hero, and a huge witness for the Alpha and Omega. It’s great to see that you are willing to share your message with so many, and I know you showed up here at WPAFB when someone needed to hear what you had to say. Continue to share your message and touch lives with your story. I hope to see another show of yours soon!

That was by far the best mandatory event I’ve ever been to! I’ve never laughed so hard at a military gathering… except for a few times at boot camp when a buddy was getting yelled at… but that’s another story! Thank you so much for you humor, and sharing your stories.

Even though I don’t drink (never have, and never plan to) I still found your words encouraging, and inspiring. Even if the tips about alcohol didn’t apply to me, I know they applied to many in that room.

I’ll never forget the emotion in your voice and handshake as you thanked me, and those around me, for our service and sacrifice for this great nation. In return, I want to thank you for your service and sacrifice for us so that we may better serve. Thank you for you love and patriotism. I second the Chief when I say, “Thanks for being a great American!”

Sincerely,

Awesome show. I was in the Navy for 20 years and a Civil Servant for three years now and I think you have found a way to get through with your message using comedy. I am sorry to hear about the rough times in your life, but I am glad to see that you have used them to get the message out to the at-risk….. young soldiers and sailors. Thanks!

I thought you had a very intelligent approach to getting all of us think about our actions with comedy to loosen us up and then the unfortunate tragedies of your personal life to show us it could happen to anyone. Very inspiring. Thank you for your service.

Bernie, you nailed it! I served in the Navy for 28 years and now work as the Admin Officer at the Personnel Support Detachment, Kings Bay, GA. Your message was on point! Originally from Brooklyn, New York, many of the experiences and trajedies you spoke to, I lived. You are a great American. Continue to do what you do best, sharing your story and encouraging our troops. My wife Mary Ann recently published her book “From Perils to Pearls, A Miracle in Brooklyn” by Tate Publishing. It addresses the issues of abuse, trajedy and the taboo subjects not spoken of in public. But most of all, how she overcame them. I mention her book only to let you know there are huring people out there and help is available if only they ask. Again, I appreciate you sharing your life with us. God bless and have continued success in your tours. Very respectfully, Waldy Robles.

I have been with the commissary for 18 years and as soon as i heard your opening statement of the back pain med being on the bottom shelf i new it was going to be funny, as a matter of fact it was true.Hhahhah. I really enjoyed hearing you today and i needed that lift.I also sent your web page to my future husband. He is a master chief of the helicopter squadron in mayport florida,I think it would really help the sailors that deploy six month at a time because they pull into differant ports and get liberty.I think thats were alot of the young sailor get into trouble and maybe it will make them think twice before going to these differant countries and getting s/faced before they have to get back on the ship to finish out there deployment.I really think you made some changes in everyone’s life that was there today.Again thank you so much it was wonderful.

I really enjoyed your show. I also lost a brother when he was only 14 and I was 15. People tend to believe that they are invincible. That “it will never happen to me” attitude is deadly. As much as many sailors despise hearing about ORM, it could really save their lives. Safety is always important. Those 2 extra minutes it may take to be safe could save an individual’s family a lifetime of heartache. Best wishes to you and great show. Hilarious.

Bernie, I was at the 8:00 show and I have to tell you out of all the comedy shows I’ve seen yours was the best. I loved your message about the Drinking and being a contractor here on base I see what some of our young Airman go thru. They have so much stress in there young lives that it is a wonder they aren’t all drinkers. I can also relate to your bother that is developmentaly delayed. I have a nephew that is a twin and one is ok and Seth is like your bother, and when you were speaking about him it brought tears to my eyes because Seth does so many of the same things that your darling brother does. He is such a joy to be with and I thank God for him everyday. I was sorry to hear about the other bother, but sometimes we have to go thru the hard times to get to the good times. I hope that some day I get to see you again. God has given you a great gift and I want to thank you, for being in on base today.

God Bless you and your family!

You were absolutely great. I laughed the entire time. Well, except when you spoke about your brother Scott. I cried for his loss. What a great message and a great way of passing the message on. I sat up front at the 0800 show next to a blonde who has twin nephews just like your brothers. One is autistic, so I understood. Absolutely funny stuff. I listen to Bob and Tom every morning so I’ll listen for you there some time. You are now one of my favorite comics. Best wishes where ever you go in life.

You know, I got up this morning thinking this was gonna be another mandatory fun, bored to tears, B.S. function. I laughed my ass off. I related to many of things that were said (In a funny way). If more briefings were like this, I definately would not make a fuss about going. I ecspaecially liked the burn on Ford, lol. And also, it’s nice to know other people share my public restroom phobia. Saw your show today. I am a civilian who was married to a man who, a few years into our marriage, proved he had a drinking problem. (Alcohol was never a drug for me.) My husband never saw himself as an alcoholic, but it was evident. I’m thankful he never injured himself when driving after drinking — and I’m more thankful he didn’t maim or kill an innocent person. (Many times he left the house without a word to me.) He never physically abused me after drinking, but he did so verbally. Not wanting to help himself, he left me no choice but to eventually divorce him, and in doing so, it brought me great relief. With two young children at home, the lives of me and my children no longer revolved around his drinking, and we now live stress-free from all the problems his drinking created. Thus, I applaud you, Bernie, for your 20+ years of sobriety. Why people feel compelled to drink (alcohol) to have a good time is beyond me. I say “get high on life”, not on alcohol. Last year I started working in a squadron here on base. At the Christmas party I attended, I was surprised that more than half of the “dirty Santa” gifts were alcohol. I understand some people like to relax at home with a brandy or something to that effect. But still, there’s more to life than alcohol – like comedy! I remember you stated in your show that Tony Danza appreciated that you did not drop the “F” bomb in your stand-up routines. I so applaud you on that as well. (I loved Danza in “Who’s the Boss?”) Best wishes on future successes with your comedy. Hopefully the message you presented today to the airmen will not be wasted.

Hey! I loved the show! You had me cracking up from the mintue you walked on the stage! You have a great gift and it’s so cool that you have a message with your act! It’s hard being young in the military and it’s easy to get stressed out and just want to take a drink to relax but turning to alcohol is not the answer! I have many family members that drink and I see what it does to people! I personaly don’t want to go down that path! Thanks again for an awesome show! Hopefully I’ll see you again!

Thanks for coming to Tinker. You really brought some needed life to a day that would otherwise have been a bust. You have an amazing message so much taught in a way that we will all remember. You made me forget some crappy stuff for an hour and half and just gave me one of the best times I’ve had in that theater. Thanks again for coming out. Hopefully they learned a little lesson on how to really reach us.

I was one of the folks in the audience at Tinker that didn’t have to be there. I’m not and actually never was in your target audience. I can’t tell my troops that I know what it’s like to drink or have to fight that demon. I appreciate that you do know and pass that on in a most entertaining and sincere way. I’ll be keeping my ears open to the reaction from the young troops – and you’re definitely a world better than “death by powerpoint”!

Wow! So much better than a power point. honestly the stories were great too. i was not expecting it to be as raw and real as it was. definately more relatable and applicable to us as Airman serving. now if they could just find a comedian to run basic training huh? thanks for the time and making it to texas. if the air force is willing to get us out of classes and off duty for an hour or two just to remind us how important we are, then i definately got the message. and once again thanks for helping put my family in perspective when it comes to alcohol. i really did not pay as much attention to that detail till now.

I was at your 2330 show on Monday night. You have an outstanding act which really puts out a lot of great information to our young troops. You rocked the house with all your stories about drinking and drugs and all the trouble they bring into your life. I was the most impressed when you talked about your younger brother who committed suicide. As I told you Monday night, I also had a younger brother who committed suicide when he was still a kid. THANK YOU so much for putting the human element back into comedy. God Speed and Good Luck.
P.S. Keep taking your little brother out on weekends.

First, congratulations on 21 years sober. That is a great accomplishment and seems hard to do when touring. I thought your show was great and still had the ‘message’ that the Air Force wants to convey. I am currently deployed to Keesler but I will return home to Luke next month. I plan on suggesting your show to my leadership as an alternative to death by powerpoint. Good luck in all your endeavours.

That was a very enjoyable show Bernie, it’s not very often I am able to sit through these briefings without dozing off. Keeping people entertained, engaged and still getting an important and powerful message across. Thank you for sharing your story and I hope you continue to enjoy yourself down here in Biloxi!

Thanks Bernie for the message you set out. I have been in two alcohol related incidents and came pretty close to losing my career in the AF. I think there are many people who can benefit from hearing you speak. Thank you for blessing Keesler with your presence. Come back and see us, we have other new Airman who you could impact coming in all the time!

Hey Bernie! Just wanted to stop by and say thank you for coming out to Keesler AFB and doing a show for us today. Didn’t want to go originally but ended up having a good time and laughing a lot. Loved you message too. I have dealt w/ family members who didn’t take the opportunity to walk away for alcoholism. I could relate and was moved by your story. Congratulations on 21 yrs sobriety! Thanks again. God Bless! -A1C

Thanks so much for coming to the great ol’ Keesler and sharing with us military the great tales of your life and how drinking has effected your life. You made it where i could understand more about the drinking and partying and it made me realize just how bad i used too be i felt like i could relate to your story and it was on a more personal level you made me laugh and all at the same time it touched my heart I really just wanted to thank you again for coming here and talking to all of us and I hope your story touched them like it did me and hopefully it will change their outlook on the whole drinking situation. On another note we are no longer trainees we are airman now the whole concept of us going through 81/2 of weeks of BMT is not to be called trainees any longer

Ya know Bernie… initially I was upset that we were having another ADAPT briefing. I just knew it was “death by powerpoint” but I was surprised that it was a comedy show. I was still mad though because I was suppose to have open ranks in ABUs so I thought that was over AND I would still need to get my blues prepared. God is great as always. The show was funny, informative, and I still was able to do the open ranks in ABUs! So thank you for taking time to entertain us while giving a very important message in a relevant way.

I would have loved to have stayed and talked to you but had to get back to work. It gives me goosebumps knowing that you have taken your past and are helping as many folks that you can reach out to. I am very proud of you and especially that you are from the Bronx in which people from there always get a bad stigma associated wth being from there. I am from the Bronx also (137th St) and there is always a bad stigma with people from there. Thanks for being a positive role model and you have been the most effective on the subject you talked about that I have seen in my 22 years of military service (retired).

Hella good show today out on the flightline. Man, that is what those Airmen needed out here; way to break the monotony of typical formations! I recently stopped drinking as well… There’s so much more to life than all that. Got an awesome wife and a wonderful son who is a multi-sport stud (football/baseball) as well as top of his class academically. So, the boos can take a backseat. Mad props homie! Hope to catch another one of your shows… Peace and hair grease my friend.

We’ve heard that message over and over again but your way of presenting it makes it more personal and at the same time a little funny so that maybe those who are having that kind of issue take it to heart a little more. You thanked us for our service but I want to thank you for what you do, it takes a lot to be able to do that and share your story. I used to party but my partying did not involve drinking: I danced my behind off and when everyone else was finally getting “lose”…I went home! Over the years, I have tried to take cars keys away, offer rides home, etc… mostly to no avail and I know several who got in trouble. Thank God none of them have died or killed anyone else…YET!
The deliverance of your message is just awesome. When many laughed until they cried, the reality of your testimony really hits home!
I had not laughed like this in a very long time! Certainly did not expect this to happen on government time! Blessings and continue the wonderful work.
