Great show tied into an even more powerful message!

  4. SFC Johnson

Great show and touching story, bro … best damn mandatory drug and alcohol training i’ve gotten in 13 years in the Army … keep up the great work!

So I was forced to march down the street and was miscommunicated about what we would be doing there. Once I got inside the first thing I heard was something about a G string you wear and I thought for sure I was in the wrong place. Upon stepping further inside the theater I began to realize that you were a very humorous comedian and immediatly my attention was hooked and I began laughing. As the event progressed I realized that you weren’t just a rogue comic who secretly snuck on base to tell some risque jokes to the troops but you were the mandatory training that I had to attend. This is probably the first time since I joined the army that I actually was glad I didn’t sham out of training. Keep up the good work man. You left me with a lot of valuable things to think over. Hope to see you again on my travels.

I don’t really know what I was expecting when I was told that I had to attend a mandatory safety training today, it certainly was not your show. I was very impressed with how you tied all the elements necesary in a safety brief in a comedic manner. I must admit that I cried when you were talking about your brother and about how you’re always there for him. Great show keep up the good work.

    Good Morning,

I attended your Happy Hour comedy show this morning at Joint Base Langley-Eustis.. I can’t say enough how much I enjoyed your show. At times you made my face hurt from laughing so much. It also brought me to tears to here about your brother Scott that killed himself. I love the stores you told about your brother Sean. You are a good brother to him!
I know he ejoys the time you two spend together. You have a gift and I am happy that you are sharing your gift with others. Take care and God Bless You!

WOW! Just saw you at Fort Eustis, your show was awesome! As my husband is a substance abuse counselor for the Navy at NAS Pensacola, I was going to suggest he try to incorporate you into one of his sessions; however, I notice by your calendar that you have already visited NAS Pensacola and NAS Norfolk, which was his former duty station.
I was a little hesitant at first to come to your show because I have never drank nor smoke–neither do I consider myself at risk for committing suicide. But you confirmed what I have said all along. I don’t have to drink to have a good time. At 40 years old, I have never taken a drink or tried any illegal substances–thanks to a strict grandmother who warned me that alcohol was poison. She would drill it in my head at an early age that if I drank alcohol would kill me. My neighbors used to laugh and say that my Grannie was crazy. But guess what, I have so much fun without drinking. I’m on a natural high and I am always the life of the party. Keep doing a good job. I hope my husband will get a chance to see you. I’m sure he would enjoy your show as much as I did.

Outstanding presentation this morning! This is a wonderful alternative to traditional training methods. What better than first-hand world experiences to deliver a message; to roll this delivery into a comedy routine is the “icing on the cake.” Thank you for sharing your story. I am glad that I had the opportunity to listen, and I’ve very grateful that someone with such history of sadness and heartache can have the courage to open up to our brothers in arms. I wish you the best of success and happiness in all of your future endeavors. Hope to cross paths again with you sometime. God speed.

That was awesome what you doing for the Soldiers. You made my day today. Im SFC Torres from the 164th TST here at Eustis and I thought i was going to one of those boring powerpoint presentation. When I saw what you were doing it was awesome a different perspective for a class. Especially that you through a lot yourself in these subjects with family and yourself. Thanks you made myself and my Soldiers see these subjects and made really think about it. Especially when Im about to PCS to Korea and leave my wife and two children here for a year. I would love to get that book and cd and i didnt get a chance to get there. How can I get it?
    SFC Torres, Wilbert

  22. William "Bill" Marques

Thank you for bringing your message and “routine” to Fort Eustis Va. I enjoyed every minute of it. After serving 21 years in the Navy and 7 years as a DA Civilian; listening to Mandatory Training sessions (Lecture, Death by Power Point, Videos) that tend to numb or desensitize the audience to the message. Your philosophy of delivering the message is refreshing! Thank you Bill

  23. Christy

Bernie, I greatly enjoyed your show today. It’s an excellent way to reach out to our military and DOD civilians and make them aware of drug and alcohol problems in a fun way that is not death by powerpoint. You are so talented and I’m forever grateful for people like you that reach out to inividuals they may be struggling with these type of situations. You’re Awesome and God Bless!!!

  24. Michael Rogers

Great show! I really enjoyed it and was touched by the personal nature of it. I have an older brother that set and continues to set the wrong example for me. I chose another path. My wife had an older brother take his own life on my son’s 1st birthday. I can relate to all of the presentation. I have not had a drop of alcohol since 1995. I still want to now and again, but I know it is not worth the cost. Thank you for being willing to do this show.

  25. Jessica Kardasz

Thank you so much for coming out!! I loved the show and it was very insperational. I was very touch, and sorry to hear you had such hard times.

  26. Brittany Rojas

Awesome show! I was cracking up the whole time! I assumed that we were going to see some cheesy comedian since it was mandatory but your hilarious! Great way to get such a good message out. Really appreciate you coming out to JBLE!

  27. Jose

Dude, you have me laughing until you start talking about your brother an how the alcohol and drugs destoy his ife. It really make me think and the F up part is that I’m very emotional (I’m a SFC you know) so I don’t supose to cry in front of troops. Anyway great show I hope you keep taking your message around the country. Go Bless you and your love ones.

  28. jackson

By Far the best show i have ever seen…EVER!!! i really dont go out and go to shows but now i think i just may. Your show hit straight to the heart and i understood exactly how you felt about everything you were saying in your show. I had a uncle die in Iraq and my brother did exactly wut your brother did. i decided to join the army and he had problems with depression which caused him to always drink. Well i had decided to join the army to straighten up my life and as i was goin thru basic combat training i had finally gotten a chance to call home but it wasnt the call home i had intended it to be. As i called and spoke to my mother she listened to all that had gone on there at basic and waited till i was done talking then told me about my brother and what he had done. he had drank to much and took some antidepressants and grabbed his shotgun from the closet and loaded not one but two shells in and pulled the trigger and how i had missed his funeral due to a “miscommunication” with the army . But anyways this month is his 4 year anniversary date as well as my uncles. Still to this day i think wut or who that second shell was intended for. Bernie i am still waiting for our pic that we had taken together…ps the book is great i am on “Is she still drunk?” by Alex Cole…..the bok is amazing!!!!! i still am waiting to read your story and i havent cheated! lol
